The Range Rover Sport is manufactured by Land Rover in its manufacturing plant in the west midlands town of Soliihull, close to Birmingham, within the United Kingdom. Introduced in 2005, the Sport is classified as a sports utility vehicle or SUV for short, with its main market being the sport touring vehicles, with the car's sporty appearance including a rear spoiler and more aerodynamically sound body. Land Rover has typically focused on both on and off road capable vehicles, and the Range-Rover Sport is no exception. It is capable of high performance and endurance off road just as the other Land-Rover vehicle range.
As debuted in the Discovery Three, the Sport is equipped with the highly intelligent Terrain Response system. This system can make changes to a whole host of driving settings to suit the terrain the car is being driven on. The knob within the car has a number of settings, including; general driving, sand, grass, gravel and snow. Settings within the; transmission, traction control, suspension height, throttle, hill descend are all tweaked to suit the selected terrain, allowing for greater control, comfort, and performance.

As the high powered SUV is styled primarily for those who drive on roads, the Sport received some unwanted attention from global warming protesters, such as Greenpeace. Protestors argue the car is inefficient and will contribute a great deal of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. The previous Land Rover models were not attacked in the same manner, with the first generations aimed typically for off road usage. Some, however, feel the Sport is primarily a road based car which will be hazardous to the environment. The new sporty styling was also met with some disgust by previous Land-Rover owners and enthusiasts.

The transmission is a six speed automatic. The Sport is a 5 door car, equipped with up to a five litre V8 engine. The newer model has minor styling changes and is set for release in 2010.
